In keeping with Dr. Heather’s philosophy of "kids teaching kids" about the human body, nutrition, and healthy living, HBDs Merrin and Pearl are now in the kitchen, sharing how to cook up healthy kid friendly snacks and meals.

Hey, kids! Before cooking, remember to always get permission from your parents first!

A family favorite snack: Julie Daniluk’s Key Lime Pie

A modern, Julie Daniluk twist on the Key Lime pie! PS the crust is absolutely delicious!

A kid favorite snack: Julie Daniluk’s Stuffed Sailors

Pearl went into the kitchen to create Julie’s Stuffed Sailors. They were creative, simple and delicious; a perfect snack for your child!

Roasted Honey Cinnamon Chickpeas

Merrin & Pearl loved garbanzo beans as kids but we haven’t eaten them much except in hummus. This is a real treat to add as our favorite snack but be sure to double the recipe if you want them to last a few days! Thanks Catherine with Weelicious!

Kids Roasting Asparagus

Merrin and Pearl are loving roasted veggies and asparagus is one of their favorites! Simple, easy and delish!

Making a Green Snack – Guacamole!

Pearl and Zoe were hungry for a snack so they decided to whip up some guacamole. They made enough for 2 but you can easily make more!

Stonyfield Frozen Yogurt

The Human Body Detectives have been eating Stonyfield yogurt for years. We recently discovered their website and stumbled across this recipe. We couldn’t help but try it out! YUM! PS you do need an ice cream maker.

Festive Ceasar Salad

Merrin and Pearl have discovered the Caesar salad. They love it and whatever entices them to eat more veggies, I am all for it. However, store bought ceasar dressing is not so healthy, so I figured we would try and make it by scratch. This is what we created!

Apple Pie Pops!

My sister made these for a holiday party and I couldn’t resist baking them with the kids ( although they did most of the work!). They were simple and fun to make and absolutely delicious to eat!

Perfect Holiday Beverage

During the holidays we have a tendency to drink more sweet drinks and not enough water. Herbal iced tea is a great way to find a nice balance – sweet & hydrating!

Lucy’s Creamed Tuna on Rice

This is a perfect comfort meal for a cold winter night! To add some color, add a warm spinach salad on the side, or a bowl of steamed broccoli with a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese.

Four Amigas Making Salsa

Merrin and Pearl invited their friends over to make a kid friendly salsa recipe. It turned out so good that they ate the whole bowl ( with chips) over a game of Sorry!

Merrin’s Making Pesto

Merrin loves her noodles covered in garlicy basil pesto! It is an easy fast recipe to wip up while the noodles are cooking.

The Best Kid Salad

Pearl serves up a healthy and colorful, “kid friendly,” salad. And its’ actually quite tasty! Watch and see!

Edamame Making

Yummy, delicious and quick after-school snack! Full of protein to sustain kids till supper!

Popping Corn!

Merrin and Pearl pop up some corn for an easy nutritious after school snack!

Gazpacho

A chilled Spanish soup made with lots of colorful fresh vegetables, that is super easy to make and really nutritious. And no cooking required! Pearl thought it was like salsa and Zoe couldn’t get enough of it! Bring on the warm summer months!

Table Setting

Pearl and Zoe thought it would be a great idea to teach other kids how to properly set a table. Do you know what side the fork goes on?

Smoothie with Cousins

Merrin and Pearl visited their cousins over the holidays and one morning they decided to blend up their favorite breakfast smoothie together! Yummy and healthy!

Lucy’s Frittata

Pearl visits her friend Lucy’s house to learn how to make Lucy’s favorite breakfast (and sometimes supper). It is simple, quick and easy!

Oven Cake

Merrin and Pearl make one of their favorite breakfasts: “oven cake.” We’re not sure how this yummy delight got its name, but what really matters is how delicious it is!

Immunity Soup

The HBDs’ buddy Zoe comes over to help make this delicious, healthy soup. Soups are easy and this one is full of colorful, vitamin-packed veggies to boost your immune system!

the STACK

Absolutely yummy and very fun to build! Merrin and Pearl create this unique, nutritious work of art with their friend Zoe in Zoe’s family’s restaurant kitchen. Your guests will be impressed and delighted to see this creation on their plate!

the GOOD COOKIES

With just a few simple ingredients, these are the simplest cookies to bake. Watch Pearl teach how to make these treats that are so healthy, they’re even an excellent breakfast food (especially if you mix in apples and walnuts)!

the GOOD MOCHI

Merrin shows how to prepare her all time favorite after school snack. Mochi is a Japanese sweet treat. This version is fun to watch puff up in the oven (but be sure to let it cool down first before you eat it up)!
